Hot Toddy Time

It’s raining, it’s cold, and I’m slightly under the weather. With the seasonal changes I knew it was only a matter of time before it caught up to me. It started with sore throat, then my voice went, and then I suffered from a migraine all last night.

Since Sunday is usually my rest day I decided to bundle up on my couch with my fleece blanket and watch movies. I realized though that one thing was missing, a “hot toddy” to bring me back to life.

A hot toddy is typically a mixed drink made of liquor, water, honey, herbs, spices, and served warm. In Scotland, it is referred to as hot whiskey. It’s definitely trending as a home remedy these days. Honey soothes coughs, lemon will boost the immune system, cinnamon can break up congestion and fever, and brandy or your choice of liquor thins mucus. There are a number of ways that you can make it.

Here goes to my way …

Ingredients:

1 cup of hot water

1-2 tbs honey

1/4 lemon

2 cinnamon sticks

1 1/2 Apple brandy

1 caffeine free lemon tea bag (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Pour boiling water into mug.
  2. Add honey and the cinnamon sticks.
  3. Let sit a bit and then add lemon juice and brandy.
  4. Enjoy!
