Adding good ‘ol peppermint to Hot Chocolate gives it an instant holiday twist. The holiday season is the perfect time to indulge in not just hearty, home cooking but speciality drinks too. What is better than bundling up in your robe next to your beautifully lit tree with a warm cup of steamy, creamy hot chocolate?!
So here’s a quick and easy recipe that will have you saying bye bye to Swiss Miss!
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup of finely crushed candy canes or peppermint starlight mints (depends on how many cups you might be making)
Instructions: Whisk all ingredients together minus milk. Combine 1/4 cup of the hot chocolate mix and 1 cup of milk in a saucepan for each serving of hot chocolate. Whisk to combine. Warm over medium heat until steaming, stirring occasionally. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows and some crushed peppermint, if desired. Enjoy!
Notes: I put the candy canes into a sturdy ziploc bag and smashed it with a rolling pin until it was all crushed. For Adults: Spice things up by adding Baileys or Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey.
